Meet Laura Weber Meyers
Hi, my name is Laura Weber Meyers. My passion in life is to guide and coach people to live their best lives in their after-work years, while still having fun, taking time to explore new interests, and doing all of the things they want to do. I want us all to make the most of these precious years after work!
Now I don’t know about you, but it wasn’t so long ago that I was always the youngest person in the room. Whether it was a meeting at work or a gathering of a volunteer group, I was the young, wide-eyed woman trying to contribute and find her place in the world. I learned a lot in those years, had really great experiences, and grew my leadership skills. Life, for the most part, seemed to be moving along at a steady, predictable pace.
And then, all of a sudden, things changed. Without even being aware of it, the next generations started showing up at work, at church, in other places and it dawned on me that I was getting older. I know that sounds silly and of course I knew it was happening, but I just didn’t acknowledge it. After all, I felt good, looked younger than my age (at least that’s what people told me), and I was still doing most of the things I’d always done, so life – and I – could go on as we always had.
But time has a way of catching up. Reality has set in and now I’m thinking about Social Security and Medicare and all the cool stuff AARP has to offer! Aging is a clear, daily presence, and I’ve started thinking of myself as a ‘senior.’ How in the world did that happen? Getting old was supposed to be for someone else . . .
And yet, here I am. And now that I’m here, I’m determined to make these years as wonderful – maybe better! – than those that came before. The reality in the 21st century is that there can be a lot of years after work. In fact, they can comprise a quarter or even a third or more of the time we spend on this planet! It would be tragic for any of us to miss out on all that life still has to offer.
So, I invite you to come on the rest of this journey with me – to figure it out together, to share the hopes and dreams still to come, to find ways to accomplish what we still want to do, and to have a fabulous time doing it!
I hope to meet you soon and to have the privilege of making the best of our years after work together!
